1. Who We Are

Paper AI Assistant is a product of Bholes Shankar Enterprises Private Limited (trading as BSEP Technologies), incorporated in India. Our registered office is at N-185, Capital Green DLF, Moti Nagar, New Delhi – 110015, India.

2. What This Policy Covers

This policy covers data collected through the Paper AI Assistant mobile application on iOS and Android. It does not govern our main website privacy practices (see our BSEP Technologies Privacy Policy).

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Documents You Submit

When you use the App to scan or upload a document, we collect and process:

• Images captured by your camera within the App
• PDF or image files you upload from your device or cloud storage
• Text extracted from those documents via Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and AI results (summaries, explanations) generated from them

Documents you save to your library are stored on our secure cloud infrastructure (encrypted in transit, accessible only from your account) so they are available across sessions. You can delete individual documents at any time in the App, and deleting your account removes all of your stored documents.

3.2 Account and Profile Information

An account is required to use the App. Depending on how you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and optionally your phone number, plus a password (stored as a salted hash) or a one-time code. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the identity Apple shares with us (your Apple account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address).

3.2a Purchases and Credits

If you buy a subscription, Apple processes the payment. We receive the subscription product and transaction identifiers from Apple to activate your plan and credit your account — we never see your payment card details. We keep a ledger of credits granted and spent to operate the credit system.

3.3 Usage and Analytics Data

• App opens, feature interactions, and session duration
• Crash reports and error logs
• Device type, operating system version, and app version
• Country / region (derived from IP address, not stored at user level)

Analytics data is collected in aggregated, anonymised form and does not identify you personally.

3.4 Device Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions:

• Camera: Required to scan physical documents. Used only when you actively initiate a scan.
• Photo Library / Files: Required to allow you to select and upload documents from your device.
• Notifications: Optional, for processing completion alerts. You can decline or revoke at any time.

Permissions are only used for their stated purpose and are never accessed in the background.

4. How We Use Your Information

• To process your scanned or uploaded documents and generate AI summaries
• To maintain your document library within the App (stored in your account on our secure cloud infrastructure)
• To validate subscription purchases with Apple and manage your credit balance
• To improve the accuracy and performance of our AI models (using anonymised, non-identifiable usage patterns only)
• To diagnose and fix bugs and crashes
• To send you App update notifications (if you have opted in)
• To respond to support requests you submit to us
• To comply with applicable legal obligations

5. AI Processing and Third-Party AI Services

Document OCR, summarisation, explanation, and Ask-AI features are powered by AI language models running on our servers and third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI). When you use an AI feature, the relevant document content or text is transmitted to the AI provider over encrypted connections (TLS), processed to fulfil your request, and is not used by the provider to train their models.

Please consider this before submitting highly sensitive documents (e.g. confidential legal advice, private medical records).

6. Data Storage, Retention and Account Deletion

• Document content: Documents, extracted text, and AI results you save are stored in your account until you delete them or delete your account.
• Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active.
• Analytics data: Retained in aggregated, anonymised form for up to 24 months.
• Support communications: Retained for up to 3 years to assist with follow-up enquiries.

Delete your account in the App: go to Settings → Delete Account. This immediately and permanently deletes your profile, login data, documents, and personal information. Anonymised purchase and credit ledger records (an internal identifier with no personal data) are retained as required for accounting and fraud prevention. You may also request deletion by emailing us (see Contact below).

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data or document content. We may share data with:

• Cloud infrastructure providers (e.g. hosting and compute) under strict confidentiality and data processing agreements.
• AI API providers for cloud-assisted processing, solely to fulfil your summarisation request, under appropriate data processing agreements.
• Analytics providers (aggregated, anonymised data only).
• Legal and regulatory authorities where required by applicable law or court order.

8. Children’s Privacy

Paper AI Assistant is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

• UK / EEA: Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection under GDPR / UK GDPR. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK).
• California (USA): Right to know, delete, and opt out of sale/sharing under CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal data.
• Canada: Right of access and correction under PIPEDA.
• Other jurisdictions: We will honour rights recognised under applicable local law.

To exercise any right, email us at info@bholeshankarenterprisesprivatelimited.com. We will respond within 30 days. Account and data deletion is also available instantly in the App (Settings → Delete Account).

10. Security

We use TLS encryption for all data in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure. Sign-in tokens are stored in your device’s secure keychain. No method of electronic transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. App Store Platform Data

When you download or purchase the App through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, those platforms collect data in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for data collected by Apple or Google. Please review:

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Effective Date” above and, where material changes are made, notify you via an in-app notice or email. Continued use of the App after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
